Plantar Fasciitis
The plantar fascia is a strong band of connective tissue that originates at the heel and extends along the bottom of the foot, attaching near the toes. It plays a critical role in supporting the arch and facilitating normal foot mechanics during walking and running. With each step, the foot naturally flattens (pronates) to absorb shock. This places controlled stress on the plantar fascia—something it is designed to handle under normal conditions. However, excessive or prolonged pronation, increased impact forces, weight gain, or repetitive strain from activities such as walking, running, or standing for long periods can overload this tissue. When the plantar fascia becomes overstressed, small tears can develop. Because the foot is constantly in use, the tissue is repeatedly strained with each step, making healing difficult. This ongoing cycle of micro-injury and inflammation is known as plantar fasciitis, one of the most common causes of heel pain.
Expert Diagnosis & Treatment
At Aurora Foot & Ankle Clinic, our podiatrists perform a comprehensive evaluation to determine the underlying cause of your heel pain. This includes:
- Assessment of foot structure and alignment
- Detailed biomechanical analysis
- Gait evaluation
- Identification of contributing factors and pathology
This thorough approach allows us to provide an accurate diagnosis and develop an effective, personalized treatment plan.
The Role of Custom Orthotics
One of the most effective treatments for plantar fasciitis is the use of custom foot orthotics. These devices are designed to:
- Control excessive pronation
- Reduce strain on the plantar fascia
- Support proper foot function
- Promote healing and prevent recurrence
By improving how your foot moves and absorbs force, custom orthotics not only relieve current symptoms but also help reduce the risk of future injury.
Comprehensive Heel Pain Care
Plantar fasciitis can be challenging to treat without the right approach. At Aurora Foot & Ankle Clinic, we combine advanced biomechanical expertise with customized treatment solutions to achieve optimal outcomes.
